Kern lasers add size, power and extra capabilities, these machines will engrave and cut all the materials that you would expect a CO2 laser to cut AND they will also cut metal!
The Base Table
Build quality is the key to the high value output that Kern produces - The construction of the tables is unique and solid. A thick steel flat plate is mounted on heavy-duty support legs to form the frame of the table. The metal top is ground to ensure flatness across the entire surface of the tabletop.
The HSE is the latest gantry design from Kern combines fast engraving speeds (3.8 meters per second) and consistent beam power and beam quality over the entire table for laser cutting and laser engraving. HSE stands for High Speed Engraving. The new gantry design develops 5G force of acceleration to move the laser optics across the 1320mm table in less than 1 second.
Resolution from 50dpi up to 2000dpi are possible, the most common of which are 300dpi and 600dpi. Depth of engraving is determined by laser power, engraving speed and the material being engraved.
The 175mm deep vacuum table along with the aluminium honeycomb tabletop will exhaust smoke and debris from the cut material. All systems have a top vacuum located at the bottom of the gantry and in the gantry legs to exhaust the smoke and fumes when engraving. Each laser cutter or laser engraving system is supplied with a vacuum blower to exhaust the fumes and smoke from the vacuum table chamber to the outside or through a customer supplied fume extraction system.
Cutting Metal. Adding a Whole New Dimension
Cutting metal requires the Automatic Capacitive Sensing Height Follower and some special grid work for supporting the metal sheet.
The Automatic Capacitive Sensing Height Follower developed by Kern Electronics & Lasers Inc is one of the key elements when laser cuttingmild steel and stainless steel for your custom metal cutting project.
A sensor senses the capacitance from the end of the isolated cutting tip to the metal being cut. This information is fed into a Kern Height Follower Controller. The gap from the meta being cut and the cutting tip can be adjusted until a designed gap is obtained. The Kern Height Follower will then maintain that gap even if there is distortion in the metal and maintain the proper focusing point.
A 150 watt laser is installed for cutting mild steel up to 2.5mm thick and stainless steel up to 1.9mm thick.
A 400 watt laser is installed for cutting mild steel up to 6mm thick and stainless steel up to 3mm thick.
Oxygen assit through the high pressure optics nozzle is needed to initiate the cut and obtain a clean edge. This oxygen flow is controlled by the KCAM software and Kern Laser Power Controller.
Changing from wood and plastic cutting to metal cutting takes only minutes. Remove the honeycomb grid work and replace with the steel grid work, change the optics nozzle, change from shop air to oxygen, and you are ready to go.
